Special-purpose vessels, harbor tugs, cable-laying ships, and ferries rely on modern rudder propeller drives for high maneuverability. These drives can rotate 360 degrees, allowing thrust to be directed in any desired direction.
In systems with multiple rudder propellers, the drives can be adjusted both synchronously and independently of one another. In combination with a satellite navigation system and an appropriate control system, this allows a ship to be held precisely in position even in rough seas.
