22 mm magnetic multiturn sensor
Novotechnik is expanding its multiturn product portfolio with the space-saving MZ1-2200 multiturn angle sensor. The new sensor has a housing diameter of just 22 mm, making it the smallest multiturn angle sensor in the product range. It is also a true “True-Power-On System,” in which rotations are detected magnetically and the absolute position is retained even in the event of a power failure. With its 44 rotations (= 15,840°) and compact design, the MZ1-2200 enables applications that previously failed due to limited installation space.
Innovative "True Power-On Technology"
The MZ1-2200 multiturn sensor uses contactless—and therefore wear-free—rotation counting based on the GMR (Giant Magnetoresistance) effect. Sensors based on this technology provide absolute position values, require no reference signals, and do not need a power supply, backup battery, or separate memory elements to detect and store rotations. The sensor has a resolution of 16 bits over 360°, and the position data is transmitted via digital or analog interfaces. The MZ1-2200 is available with CANopen, CAN SAE J1939, or IO-Link interfaces, or with a ratiometric output signal.

The MZ1-2200 is the ideal choice for industrial applications, automation technology, or mobile machinery—anywhere where maximum functionality is required with minimal space. Examples include integration into various drives used for gate control, seat adjustment, or in process technology. Multiturn sensors are also frequently used in vehicles or other transport systems for steering, transmission, or individual wheel control.
Space-saving design and fully equipped
With the new MZ1-2200, Novotechnik has developed a compact solution for limited installation spaces. With a housing diameter of 22 mm, the sensor is easy to integrate and, thanks to its non-contact measuring principle, requires no maintenance and has no moving parts. Even under harsh environmental conditions, the miniature sensor operates with absolute reliability thanks to its IP65 protection rating. The fully encapsulated electronics leave no chance for dust or liquids to penetrate.
